This is still an early document -> please consider the
items listed here with the goal of providing QVS feedback as opposed to a
definitive features list.

Access Control
- 4690
controller user/password to gain access.
- Default:
Must be high privilege user to monitor/remote control terminals.
External Interfaces
- Included
InSight Desktop UI App
- ‘C’
APIs to attach to controller agent in stores and to request information
variables and initiate terminal monitoring.
- TCP/IP
from UI and APIs to the controller.
- Optional
multicast enabled for finding controllers
- SNMP
(?? – maybe V2)
User Interface

Components
- Terminal
extensions and agent
- Controller
extensions and agent
- Desktop
UI
- ‘C’
API library
- Controller
tool: status, enable/disable, enable/disable terminal extensions,
uninstall, monitor all terminal operator displays.
Platform Information
- Controller:
V2R4 and later 4690OS, CSF V2 and V3
- Terminals:
Terminals that run 4690 OS V2R4 and later
- Lan
types: Loop, Ethernet, token ring (all terminal monitoring not available
on Loop by default).
- No
application changes required
- Minimal
terminal and controller memory requirements (TBD but 100KB/250KB term, 3MB
on the controller is rough idea)
- InSight
extends 4690 OS at the terminal and the controller with features available
in many of today’s non-proprietary OS environments. Version 1 enables access to
management information and remote monitoring and control of
terminals. Future versions
may allow additional inter-operability with outside systems, improved
performance of the 4690 controller, and more capable diagnostic and
performance analysis system services.
