Overview - Brief Description of Feature This feature monitors for new terminal dump files and supports compressing and archiving of the raw dump data and generated dump reports. Problem - What Problem Does the Feature Solve? 4690 OS allows for keeping only one terminal dump data set and that information is kept in uncompressed, raw mode. InSight extensions such as the SnapShot Dump feature and the InSight Dump Formatter provide additional terminal dump information that make it more likely that a customer can make use of information in a terminal dump without IBM assistance. With an increase in usable dump information, having only one dump data set is a limitation that makes it harder to have the needed diagnostics data when a problem occurs. Solution - Short Description of How the Feature Works The InSight Controller Agent monitors the controller for occurances of new 4690 terminal full and snapshot dumps. When 4690 has completed processing the dumps, the InSight Controller agent runs the InSight dump formatter against the new dump file and then compresses the dump data set and rolls out the oldest set of dump data to make room for a new set. By default 5 sets of dump data are kept. |
